The Importance of choosing the right Riding Hat
The riding hat is the most important part of the horse riders safety equipment as it protects your head in case of a fall. This is why it is essential to have a good quality hat that fits well and meets current safety standards. The UK legislation states that all riders aged 14 and under must wear a hat conforming to at least EN1384 (the European standard) when riding on public roads.
This is also the basic minimum standard for most forms of riding but some competitions will have a requirement in terms of the safety standards that riding hats will meet. Most yards will insist on hats being worn when ever mounted. It is important to always wear your hat even if your horse is very well behaved and quiet as they could always trip, slip or fall and cause you injury.
