Groom / Yard Assistance
There are many day to day activities that any horse owner / keeper will be used to.  Many people choose to work on horse yards, assisting yard owners adnd horse owners in these day to day activities.  The job can include riding, grooming, stable tasks, feeding and much more, depending on the yard.  The care and work that is involved with looking after horses, in every sense of the task, is great and many who work in this profession are dedicated hard working horse lovers.

Healing

The therapy of 'hands on healing' or Spiritual Healing is one of the oldest forms of treatments known to mankind.  It works by using the hands to channel energy in to the spirit of a person/animal.  It is believed that each of us has Chakras, energy centers.  When there is a problem in the body blockages can occur in the energy field causing the centers of the energy within that body to vibrate out of rhythm.  The laying on of hands can help to channel, healing the essence of the body.

Margrit Coates
Equine Massage

The theraputic application of professional sports massage techniques applied to horses to help prevent injuries and also treat them.  It is also believed that equine (sports) massage can be used effectively to develop the performance of horses by boosting circulation, improving muscle tone and reducing tension.  In the UK qualified equine masseurs are also qualified in human massage; they look at the horse as a whole to consider all causes and effects of any tension while interpreting a horses reactions.

Chiropractors

Meaning 'done by hand', chiropractic manipulation aligns and balances the animals musculoskeletal system.  By manipulating any misaligned joints throughout the whole body, with specific attention to spine and pelvis, it helps both to restore and maintain health, soundness and performance.  It works holistically to eliminate the cause not just treating the symptoms.

Andrea Pole
Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a complete and well established healthcare system that uses the body’s natural self-regulating and healing mechanisms to restore wellness and balance. Its philosophy states that structure and function are mutually interrelated, and that by correcting and relaxing the structure, normal function can be restored. This principle can be applied to both horse and rider and also the active relationship between the two.

Farriery

Farriery, or the shoeing of equines, is an ancient craft, believed to have been practiced first in the Roman Empire. It is defined in the Farriers (Registration) Act 1975 as ‘any work in connection with the preparation or treatment of the foot of a horse for the immediate reception of a shoe thereon, the fitting by nailing or otherwise of a shoe to the foot or the finishing off of such work to the foot’. A farrier is a skilled craftsperson with a sound knowledge of both theory and practice of the craft, capable of shoeing all types of equine feet, whether normal or defective, of making shoes to suit all types of work and working conditions, and of devising corrective measures to compensate for faulty limb action.

Ben Howson
Equine Dentistry

Equine Dentists, with the use of specialised equipment, aim to achieve balance and equilibrium throughout the equines mouth, reducing malocclusions and sharpness that can easily cause pain and discomfort to the horse. Reducing protuberant or restrictive tooth heights / edges will give full lateral excursion and better occlusion, relieving pain, increasing tooth life, improving horse performance and overall health and condition.

Livery Yards

liverycatagorypic.jpgLivery yards offer a range of services for horse and owner.  The most commonly known options are Full Livery, Part Livery and DIY.  Full livery is usually a more comprehensive option where the horses are looked after full time by the yard staff.  Part livery enables the owners of horses to pay the yard staff to do certain tasks daily but they play a role in looking after their own horse.  The DIY option is usually where the owner rents a stable space and field space from the yard owner, whilst taking full care of their own horse.
